Karen Roper, Ph.D. - Licensed Psychologist

Mood symptoms or sudden changes in our lives can become a powerful catalyst for personal growth and a renewal of happiness. People are dynamic so relationships are unique and can be complicated at times. We will work together to define your goals for therapy to ensure your treatment plan focuses on your individualized needs while also utilizing your personal strengths.
Through collaboration with clients in therapy, I’ve seen many reclaim a life of joy, purpose, and experience a renewal of strength, despite loss and disappointment. I provide a supportive and safe environment to promote healing, dynamic change, and an improvement in happiness as you are reaching your goals for therapy. I enjoy teaching and supporting individual's desired behavioral, emotional, health, and life changes. It is highly rewarding to provide that guidance and relief to individuals and families in need.
I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. My specialty areas include the treatment of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, Autism, and grief in all ages. Other areas of research and clinical expertise include working with children of divorced/blended families, adoptions issues, ADHD, eating disorders, the trauma of infidelity, and women in abusive relationships to support a path to healing.
I use a variety of empirically validated therapeutic approaches and interventions in working with clients. My theoretical approach is primarily informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Additional theories and interventions used include Health psychology, Play therapy, Adlerian Theory, and positive parenting.
I graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counseling Psychology in 2012. Prior to that, I earned my Bachelor Degree in Education also from Louisiana Tech University. My postdoctoral training was completed at Marshall University within the Department of Psychiatry at Joan C Edwards School of Medicine located in Huntington, West Virginia. I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). Some of my previous work settings include hospital settings, in private practice, and college universities.
